Why Horizon Center?

Children and adolescents build identity, confidence, and a sense of self within context.

This is the stage where questions of belonging, capability, meaning, and voice take shape — through family life, social environments, education, and cultural surroundings. These contexts do not operate separately; they continuously influence how young people see themselves and their place in the world.

This was true for us as children as well — but today there is additional pressure.

Children and adolescents are exposed to social media, fast-changing cultural messages, and content that often does not match their developmental stage. There is also a broader sense of instability in the world. In Paphos specifically, many children are relocated or growing up in international settings, requiring constant adaptation, language shifts, and cultural navigation.

At Horizon Center, we believe that to truly support children and adolescents, all these layers must be considered together. We work in connections — acknowledging the personal, the social, the global, and the learning process as interdependent.

This work requires not only exploration, but also practical tools, clear goals, and intentional settings.

Although we are not a therapy center, this approach has a therapeutic effect: children develop a strong internal core, and the areas of their lives , emotional, social, academic, are positively affected.

What We Offer

Horizon Center offers a holistic, process-based framework that supports children, adolescents, and parents through creative, educational, and mentoring-based work.

Our services are designed to be:

  • Structured, with clear goals and review points

  • Flexible, adapting to individual needs

  • Connected, so that different elements inform and strengthen one another

Families may engage with one or several of the following services, either independently or as part of an integrated process:

PERSONAL MENTORING

Personal mentoring offers individualized support that helps children and adolescents understand themselves, their environment, and how to navigate challenges with clarity and confidence.

SOCIAL THEATER GROUPS

Drama at Horizon Center is a laboratory for exploring human behavior and connection.

It naturally combines emotional, social, and educational fields, as it asks questions about society, culture, and the self.

PARENTAL SUPPORT

As part of our holistic approach, we work with parents to support their child’s growth through personal meetings, workshops, and lectures.
We also offer group playback theater sessions for parents to share experiences and gain perspective.

How it Works

HOW

Our uniqueness lies in the creation of clear, individualized processes.

After an intake with parents and getting to know the child, we build a personal plan with goals and markers for development.

At agreed intervals, progress is reviewed and the plan is refined.

Refinement may include adjusting focus or completing a specific element once its goals are met — ensuring the process is purposeful and not open-ended.

Group and private sessions are connected:

Tools introduced in individual sessions are practiced in groups, and real situations from groups are brought back into private sessions for reflection and learning.

Children may participate in:

* Private sessions only

* Group sessions only

* A combination of both

Parent may participate where relevant.

We offer tiers of support, reflecting these combinations as parts of one whole process.

Horizon Center will soon include professionals from additional fields, all working together to provide integrated, individualized support for children and adolescents. Each child will follow a thoughtfully designed path, guided by an appointed professional, with parental agreement and full confidentiality.

COMMUNITY

COMMUNITY

We acknowledge that Horizon Center operates within the small community of Paphos. Working in a close-knit environment means being aware of relationships, visibility, and trust.

Rather than ignoring this, we choose to embrace it thoughtfully  and take an active role in building a community that is strong, connected, and rooted in understanding. At the same time, privacy is essential to our work.

We are transparent about the boundaries we hold:

Group settings are where the community aspect naturally exists;

Private sessions and personal conversations are confidential.

This distinction is clear, communicated from the start, and carefully maintained.

We believe that it takes a village, and that a supportive community plays a meaningful role in children’s sense of belonging, safety, and security. For us, community is not a slogan — it is a practice, guided by integrity, respect, and clear boundaries.

Adolescents Who Don’t Thrive in the System — A Problem or a Strength?

Adolescents who don’t thrive in the system are often labelled in many ways — unmotivated, difficult, sensitive, or rebellious. But what if those traits aren’t problems at all, but hidden strengths that simply haven’t had the chance to shine? Many people of recognized accomplishments recalled that in their younger years they did not fit into the traditional system — yet their differences became their greatest assets.

This workshop invites parents to look closely at the pressures, expectations, and environments their adolescents navigate. By understanding their needs and connecting them to their strengths, parents can begin to shift the teen’s personal narrative, shaping how they move into adulthood, succeed in work, build relationships, and navigate life’s challenges.

Participants will explore how teens can move from “unmotivated” to a “different type of learner” who is curious and engaged, or from “rebellious” to an “independent thinker.” We will highlight how creativity, innovation, and thinking outside the box are often areas where these adolescents naturally excel.

During the workshop, we will also present our Horizon initiative, introducing both the Center and the Hub, and showing how our programs can support adolescents and families in practical, creative, and holistic ways.

Children and Adolescents in Context:
Supporting Growth in Times of Rapid Change

26.3.26

We are living in a moment where the gap between generations is at its largest: the world parents grew up in looks nothing like the world today’s children and adolescents face, shaped by technology, political and environmental tensions, and rapid societal shifts.

Can we truly understand and support our children without fully understanding the world they face and the new factors shaping their sense of identity and belonging?

Children and adolescents live in an increasingly complex environment, and no matter how much we try to protect them, they are exposed to pressures that affect their well-being, values, attention span, and ways of thinking — creating entirely new challenges.

In this workshop, we will discuss the unique factors impacting children and adolescents and explore approaches that help parents gain insight into their world. Using practical tools and exercises, parents will develop a deeper understanding of their children’s experiences, challenges, and perspectives — a foundation for supporting their growth in an informed and empathetic way.

This is the launching workshop of Horizon 360.  We will  explain how our programs can support families. At the end, parents are welcome to ask personal questions while enjoying a glass of wine or tea and connecting with other attendees.

Time: 20:30 | Entrance: 5€ | Location: TBA
